Council for Responsible Jewellery Practices

The Council for Responsible Jewellery Practices (CRJP) was founded in May 2005 by 14 organizations (including Rosy Blue) from a cross section of the diamond and gold jewellery business. Its objective is to promote responsible business practices in a transparent and accountable manner throughout the industry from mine to retail. Current members include, among many others, miners such as the Diamond Trading Company, BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto; brokers such as Bonas & Co.; diamantaires such as Diarough, Leo Schachter, Overseas Diamonds and Suashish; retailers such as Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Zale Corp. and Signet; retail associations such as Jewelers of America and the American Gem Society; and bankers such as ABN Amro Bank.

Rosy Blue's decision to join the initiative was based on the shared belief amongst the founding Council members that a coordinated worldwide approach to addressing ethical, social, human rights and environmental challenges will drive continuous improvement throughout the jewelry industry to help maintain and reinforce consumer confidence in our industry. To reduce duplication of effort, we encourage all our business partners to consider joining the Council in its important work and to offer input on the system of standards that CRJP is devising, against which all members will conduct their businesses. Black Economic Empowerment

Rosy Blue is a supporter of Black Economic Empowerment in South Africa and an initiator and supporter of the Workers' Trust for its factory workers. These are initiatives taken by the leadership of Rosy Blue with the goal of strengthening and expanding Rosy Blue's operations in South Africa. Rosy Blue demonstrates hereby its support to the South African government's desire to expand local diamond cutting.

To reinforce the involvement and commitment by Rosy Blue to the evolving South African diamond industry and to diversifying ownership to include the historically disadvantaged in the economy, the company chose to form an alliance in July 2005 with Sphere Holdings, a new generation empowerment company. The partnership with Rosy Blue has introduced a new BEE company to the South African diamond sector.

The company has also implemented a Workers Trust at its diamond cutting plant in Cullinan. Vishal Mehta, Managing Director of Rosy Blue Manufacturing: "Our South African workers represent the best of Rosy Blue. This is why we have looked at implementing a Workers Trust to give back to our staff a stake in the business in a producing country that has long been the backbone of the diamond and jewelry industry."

Furthermore, Rosy Blue organizes seminars for its workers on topics that affect the industry in South Africa. The topics covered range from HIV prevention, BEE, personal finance, employment law as well as Best Practice Principles such as child labour, money laundering and financing of terrorism.
